Any schools (like MI) for Effect making?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I was wondering if there were any collages like MI (that just became a collage right?) for effect making. Or would I go to another school not related to music?

There are no colleges for that. There are vast internet resources for learning these things, and there are college courses on general electronic theory and design.

Possibly look into some general electronic theory on circuits etc first. While there is plenty of information on the net regarding building stompboxes, unless you a bit clued up in the first place, your head will spin (IMO).

There is such a thing as too much information. The net is so jam packed with stompbox info that it becomes an information overload. Also there is a lot of opinion and incorrect info getting around. Get yourself a solid foundation first, then sift through the many thousands of threads / websites that are around.

There still won't be specific pedal building courses as such. Just like there aren't really DVD player building courses etc.. Its just theory that you learn and then apply.

Electrical Engineering is a pretty standard course of study at most major Universities and Colleges. As far as tech schools go... DeVry has some Electronics coursing.

Like said already, the Interwebz is full of DIY effects info. Get a cheap laser printer and start printing / reading / studying

+1 if you decide the college route, I think an accredited EE curriculum will get you the skills to build FX plus many good jobs!
