Any synth pedals comparable to the Akai Deep Impact?

I've been trying to pick up this pedal for a while but it's a bit out of my price range. Anyone have any suggestion?

Short answer is no: that's why they're so valuable on the used market.

I was lucky enough to find a Deep Impact new for $180 well after they had been discontinued. Of course I had to order it from Europe, but they even forgot to charge me shipping, which saved me a bundle! Anyways, chances are slim now, but you never know what kind of deal you can find if you look around. Don't give up .

How much of a disservice would I be doing to myself if I settled for the Boss SYB5?

get one.

no disservice.

there are better synths but that's a great pedal. Put a bassballs in front of it and you've got a killer pair.

Main problem with the Boss synths is tracking. Sounds are quite good.

Other alternatives (not cheap) to look at are the Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer and the Korg G5.

EHX Bass Micro Synth is another option.

I looked at the Akai, but opted for the Digitech Bass Synth Wah, which gets a bit of love on TB...

I like it

What kind of synth sounds are you going for, OP?

I think the Boss pedals sound better than the G5, but the G5 blows everything away in tracking. The BSW has a great suboctave and tracks well. That's all I used it for, but it had some other cool sounds in it as well.

BMS is a great pedal. The Octavius Squeezer falls in the middle of these two 'categories', but it's about the same price as the Akai. I haven't really gotten into my OS too much still... the tracking kind of.. sucks. :/

My top two recommendations would be the BMS and the BSW.

Korg G5 is probably more comparable to the deep impact; both are digital with strong tracking. Its about half the price too.

If you're willing to go boss and you;re on a budget, you might as well try a digitech BSW while youre at it though.

the digitech BSW is great if you ask me. you can use it for just an octaver (which tracks really well i might add, better than the boss OC-3), or envelope filter, or both those at once, plus all the synth spunds it has. some are cheesy but with the right knob adjustments they can sound really gnarly. especially with a distortion after it.
