Any way to power a 4.5v pedal with OneSpot 9v?

Sign in to disble this ad
As in the titles, is there any way to power a 4.5v pedal via a 9v OneSpot power source? I've been contemplating putting a Pandora into the FX loop of my Microbass II, but the Pandora takes it's own 4.5v adapter or battery power.

Granted, it wouldn't be used much, so battery wouldn't be bad, but a way to knock down the onespot power to 4.5v would be optimal.

Thoughts?

Sure, just chop it in half. Easy.

Uhoh... but bongo said to cut it in half... :-)

Seriously though, is there a way to cull down the power or is my aversion to multiple power adapters just going to have to suffer?

Well, it would be pretty easy to make a little voltage divider using two resistors of the same value:

...you'd have to house it in something though, at least some shrink tubing.

I have a box using 2 AA size batteries, which means a 3V equipment.

But it can also use a standard BOSS power adapter - officially supported.

Weird...

So it can use a standard 9v adapter? Well, that would be perfect. Doesn't say anything about it in their manual. Their manual suggests their 4.5v adapter.

Odd...

You cannot use a 9V adapter directly. It would fry the Pandora.

First you need to take the 9V from the power supply unit and reduce the voltage with a voltage divider as indicated by Bongomania.

The voltage divider will produce 4.5V from the 9V. The 4.5V you get from the voltage divider should be ok to power the Pandora.

Having said that, there might be a problem if the Pandora and the other pedals use a different zero-voltage reference.

Ok. Being an idiot about voltage divider's etc I guess I'll just feed the thing batteries if I find one affordably.

What I think this guy was saying--

--is something about a box that isn't the Pandora. In order for what he's describing to work, they would have to have built a voltage divider in to the "box" so that it only works with the 2 AA's (whose power is not divided/reduced) or a Boss 9V adapter (through the divider).

I HighLighted my PX3B with a silver Sharpie.

It uses a Standard Power Supply ...

Edit: I just looked at the Korg site; the PX4D uses a 4.5v PSU ... bummer.
