Anybody ever build a "Brass Blaster" Brassmaster clone?

I really like the honky Brassmaster sound, has anybody ever had the opportunity to A/B a vintage brassmaster with one of these builds? The PCB is to be had for pretty cheap...

Where can you get the PCB?

i've built one, and i've compared it to a real brassmaster.

I will say this. The brassblaster, is based off of the Maestro Brassmaster schematic.
And the Maestro schematic is not a correct schematic for the Brassmaster.

OK I'll take your word for it. You and your... superior clone... and those... features... making me sick.

I won't buy one till I find a silicon with expression input (timed with when I have cash)

i forgot to mention, you'll get pretty close with the BrassBlaster, just not as wide of a range as a real Brassmaster

I'm not backtracking, if you're anything like me, 1000.00 for a real brassmaster or even 255.00 for a clone is still too much right now.

the BrassBlaster can get you pretty darn close..heck i can even put together a parts kit for you!

I might just talk to you about that! But please relax, in case you havent noticed I am the sarcasm king of the effects forum

here's a brass blaster question - apparently the mode switch makes negligible difference. Is this so? Cause if it is, it's hardly worth building with a switch at all, or?

I just finished building one last week and haven't had a chance to try it out at loud volumes, but I dig it very much so far. I decided not to build in either switch, because 1 of them didn't make much difference at the knob settings I liked, and the other one sounded great in one position and terrible in the other position.

I've never played a Brassmaster or B:assmaster.

i have built a brassmaster clone, and in my build, all the switches work and make a big difference.
i never played an original, but the sound coming out of mine sounds purdie.
there is an issue with transferring the values of the schem to the layout...i had a thread about it on diystompboxes (actually more than one), but it seems that people don´t understand what i mean, or even get a little angry. ok, no biggie, mine´s working.

but @malekko: what is the "secret" difference that you have found out ?

cheers,
lowstar

I bought parts for the GGG clone but I've yet to breadboard it. I'll see how it sounds before deciding on buying GGG's PCB.

Here's a noodly clip of the GGG Brassblaster I built a few years ago. It sounds good as it is, but it is different from the B:assmaster. The general character of the fuzz is basically the same but like Josh said the frequency response is different. I think the problem with schematic is probably something in the filter section, but only Josh knows for sure

Sounds pretty cool, if a bit mid-centric.

Just look up the schematic and bill of materials on GGG's website, order their board and then order the rest of the parts from Mouser. You'll be good to go. If Mouser doesn't have everything than I recommend Effects Connection and Pedal Parts Plus.
