Anybody have a VT pedal go bad?

Gig last night and all was going well, until I started to have a buzz saw type sound. This morning I seem to have singled out that the vt pedal is the culprit. Just curious if anyone has had one of these go bad.

Nope ... But I had an SX bass with a preamp that would only buzz when plugge into a VT bass.

I changed the preamp and everything was fine.

Yeah, but I've been using this rig and it's been fine. It just started last night. It's not a battery. I used a power supply.

I've used Tech 21 products for years, never a glitch. Contact their tech support I'm sure they will take care of you. Also try it with a battery to make sure it's not a power supply issue.

Well, I tried a battery and it still is fuzzing out big time. I tried every cable, head and cab, and it still seems as if it's the pedal. Oh well, I guess it's time to get a new vt.

Yes I have an active bass and I did try replacing the battery. Also as far as lighting, the buzz is occuring no matter where I try it.

Contact tech 21. My guitarist has an original sansamp that has blown some part on more than one occasion. Its a delicate little thing that hates venues with bad power.

He's gotten it fixed everytime. Its worth a shot.

To the OP. Does the buzz go away when you turn your bass guitar volumes down? Have you tried a different bass, cables etc.? Also, what are you plugging the VT Bass into? A mixing board, amp, etc,? Is anything else before the VT Bass pedal besides your bass?

If for some reason the pedal is malfunctioning contact our technical support team. TECH 21 - SUPPORT If it's out of warranty the pedal can usually be repaired for a small bench charge.

While Tech21 are around answering questions, is it normal for a VT Bass to distort your signal in bypass mode when the volume and gain are cranked beyond sensible levels? I've not tried running it on a battery to see if it behaves the same...

WOW!! This is some serious service. Yes I have tried switching, heads, cables, batteries, ect. The buzzsaw sound did not lessen at all with volume changes either to the bass, the head or the pedal itself. We have some nice gigs this week, so rather than piss with it, I just had a local music store overnight a new VT to me. I tried it this morning and all is well again in bass land. Thanks for all of your help guys.

If the new one works fine there is probably an issue with the other one. Did the store swap it out or does it need to be repaired? If you call the Tech Support # you will get a real person. We don't have an automated answering system.

Yes, you could be clipping the FET's in the bypass circuit and getting leakage from the preamp. Usually when you overload the pedal you will hear a crackling type of distortion or noise. Just back the level down a bit and you should be fine. To run the pedal with that amount of gain and level would render switching it on and off pretty much useless as the disparity in levels would be too much.
