Question Anybody try a BJFE Candy Apple Fuzz on bass?

The title, she says it all. Apparently this is the raunchy fuzz from Björn, and those are two qualities that I quite enjoy. Just wondering how it handles the low end before I plunk down €250/$863 for one.

When I asked about this on the BJF forums I was told that this particular pedal has a "few" setting that hold the low end decently, and the others do not hold it very much at all. Might be good with a clean blend of some sort.

Take one for the team Adrian...buy one!

Also...your exchange rate calculation has gone a bit wrong. 250EUR is about $370.

I've read and thought about this fuzz also. From what I've read and learned on the BJFE forums, the Mad Professor Fire Red Fuzz is a better candidate. You can read more here (if you haven't already):

http://www.bjfe.org/viewtopic.php?f=...d=a&hilit=bass

Also, if you're interested in building, the forum is selling Folk Fuzz 3.5 kits. Preorder window is gone, but, you might still be able to snag a complete kit which will include all the parts AND a box that has been etched by Jfromel and finished by Donner. More info here:

http://www.bjfe.org/viewtopic.php?f=...st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Hope this helps!

Well, the internet ate my last post, so this ones shorter.

I had one for a bit.

Its got a good range of gains and stays quiet at most of them. Doesn't hit mild fuzz, but comes down below insane gain.

It wasn't mid scooped, so it seemed to cut through decently when I jammed with some people. Lots of great aggressive mids and highs.

As you always expect, the third control is where the fun is. It covers range from gated and sputtery to smooth gating, to octave up, to different smooth gating. Most settings do OK with lows, but a couple (octave up) do cut a bit.

With the wooly mammoth's pinch knob as a comparison... the mammoth starts raging and open when the pinch is off, and as it turns up before the gate starts, it get a bit choked or restrained. THere's still low end, but its a bit less present or blooming.

My thoughts on the CAF is that it never fully hits that open, raging fuzz sound. It always felt a little bit choked or restrained. THe gating is generally smoother than the wooley mammoth, and they don't really sound alike. More of an attempt at a description of feel.

Overall, a good bass fuzz with versatility, good lows at a lot of settings, and just generally fun (also it looks cool?). More aggressive and raunchy than crazy (ie, its not oscillating or unpredictable, but does do really high gain) I miss mine, and its one of the few pedals I think I might buy back if a new job I'm chadsing pans out.

More later maybe, I gotta go do stuff. Frigging internet.

Edit: Folk fuzz is good on bass. fuzz face-y though depending on how you tune it, and a tottally different beast. Not as crazy.

Sweet, sweet information. Cheers.

If Björn made a bass-specific fuzz I would buy one ASAP. Still think I'm an idiot for ditching my Blue Berry, even if I don't really like regular ol' distortion much these days.

He is going to making one isn't he? I'm sure I read something on a forum not too long ago where Björn was asking what people would want from a bass-specific fuzz.

I may have imagined it but I don't think so...

Just for general information, my version of lows being present is through my tiny amp and 112 that rolls off lows on its own. If you have a huge (or even moderate) rig you're probly gonna get something different out of it.

Otherwise, if you're into stacking, the treble could be rolled off with another pedal to make the low end seem a bit better. Sounded great into a honeybee or blueberry, although muffled if you liked the harsh side of things.

And, to say it a bit better... A few settings with really good lows. More with decent lows, but not perfect. A few with rolloff.
