I owned both at the same time a while back.
They are totally different beasts.

The Musket is a straight-up balls to the wall fuzz. It melts faces.

The Battering Ram is a bit trickier. It is a harsh overdrive for one. But the additional fuzz channel complicates things. When you kick it in, it has a delicious thrashing distortion. And the fuzz's octave up switch is AMAZING. It sounds beautiful.

To be honest, I liked the BR but sold it because it wasn't the sound i was looking for. It's badass though.

The Musket is more straightfoward but is still complicated enough to produce a lot of different sounds.
The BR is a nice all-around distortion, with the option of kicking in a gnarly nasty fuzz stacked ontop of a growling low-end overdrive.

Thank you Valerus!

I have a Battering Ram and like it. I think it is more of a right in between Fuzz/ OD/ Distortion. I say this because I also use a distortion pedal that is much more true of a distortion pedal.

I completely agree with you about the octave up, and wish they add a third stomp switch JUST to activate it.

So perhaps there is a place for BOTH of these on my board (in addition to my distortion pedal)? Hmmm...

Oh and a question- So you would say that the BR is smoother sounding than the Musket?

That wouldn't work very well on bass with the pedal as it is designed, due to the fuzz side cutting lows to maintain clarity and bite. The OD side is there to provide the bottom. Also, the BR in octave up is very much not "smooth" to my ears, but rather "biting" and "cutting".

As far as the Musket goes, it's a muff. If you like muffs, you'll like the Musket.

I agree- the octave up is not so smooth (as in creamy), but it is sweet sounding, IMO. I just meant the overall sound of the BR vs. the Musket 2.

For the most part, I use both sides of the BR at the same time.

I found the BR to be less smooth and more crunchy than the Musket.

Haven't played the musket (yet!), but I've owned the Battering Ram.

I really liked both sides of the Battering Ram. The distortion side is really rad and sound great with a pick (which I don't use). It really gives you a great grind will retaining the low end, if you want it to, or not via the "lo" switch.

The fuzz side is grindy and awesome, and the octave up setting is wild! It definitely doesn't do obese, doom-y obliteration fuzz though.

The only thing that I don't that I don't about the battering ram is that I could either dial in a sweet distortion tone or a sweet fuzz tone. I found that I had to settle for one or the other. Because they run together, and are not independent.
