anyone have NOISE with one spot

Sign in to disble this ad
the scenario :: u have a ton of pedals, and wanna use them all hooked up (not all on at once of course , some bypassed) , but got a terrible noise when using a one spot power supply daisy chain cord.

should i use only factory original adapters? they are HUGE and would take up at least 2 surge strips. ... plus i dont have them all, when i got some of the pedals the cords ( wall warts) werent sold at those stores lets say... etc.

or is 7-8 pedals too much to deal with ?

i think the noise is to blame on the one spot honestly

just wanna know if any of you had this problem?

i do see lots of cats mainly guitar players who do play out live with tons of pedals and do not have this problem.

i also thought about could it be because some have an old battery inside i forgot to remove when using the cord?

thanks!

I test all my pedals with a One Spot and don't get any noise. I've had 3-4 pedals hooked up at once with no problems. Have you tried each pedal individually with the One Spot to see if maybe one particular pedal is not compatible with it?

Make sure you don't have your amp and 1Spot plugged in to the same outlet. I switched the plug to a different socket and the tiny amount of buzz went away. +1 to checking each pedal to isolate the noise.

Assuming the 1Spot isn't "broken", I could almost guarantee the problem is in sharing a common ground between all of your pedals. This is the big flaw with daisy chain supplies. Many pedals cannot share a common ground with other pedals--they either shut down, or cause hum, buzz, or hiss in the signal path, even when the "culprit" pedal is not "on".

u guys are great! and yes they were all on the same circuit!!!! i will try isolating.

but really, i am selling alot of pedals on ebay right now, so dont know if i will really have the time to isolate and all that crap b4 i ship them .

i will try first to use the other jack outlet.

but u know what?

sometimes live on stage, u cant always pick "diofferent" circuits to plug into if your guitarist is on the other side using his outlets, etc... u know?

and ill be damned if im gonna go out and start buying 9 volts galore. lol

ripoff. and my pedals mostly dont have "quick access" battery compartments, . they use screws. lol

By "sharing common ground" I didn't mean they were all plugged into the same wall outlet, I meant they were all connected in a loop via the negative wires of the daisy chain and the shielding of the patch cables. With some (not all) pedals, that results in noise.

The Furman or Alesis or whatever will not help at all--what they do is filter noise from the wall outlet, they don't do anything about noise caused within your rig.

Same with me, used with 4 to 8 pedals. However, I did replace the 1Spot with a regulated Fulltone wart (note - regulated...just in case) and use the 1Spot to power my Planet Waves tuner 'cause it buzzes throught the amp when it's on - this is definitely the tuner tho...they're known to do this sometimes.

I know everyone suggests expesnisve gear for simple questions.. ..

This is one of the instances a qualtiy battery adaptor makes sense...

I've had horrid results with the power adaptors for this reason.

My planet waves tuner will slightly buzz/warble sometimes depending on what pedals are in the chain with it. It's rarely a problem and often I just keep the tuner running on a 9v sitting on top of my amp rather than loaded onto my board. I never need to tune mid-set, etc.

I have had a couple of pedals that don't like a 1-spot at all (ie HBE Psilocybe)...

Weirdo thing with mine - I recently pulled my Boss ODB-3 & BF-2 and NYC BMPi out to sell and after recabling the board and powering it all off of the 1Spot, my tuner noise (which was obvious before this) is now gone. My Polish Love is still on it's way back from Bogdan and I'm curious to see what happens when it goes back in...

Actually not weird at all. That's a fairly common result of the whole ground-plane-sharing thing I mentioned.

im definately downsizing pedals... just too aggravating for me right now with all the hiss and noise.

i think im going to get down to 4 pedals max. for live. and just use the others for studio recordings

live::: ebs multi comp / mxr phase 100 / sans vt bass / analog chorus ( dont have one yet ) / peterson tuner vsam2 ( not in any order )

studio::: boss rc50 looper , various ehx stuff, and line 6 delay modeler , etc...
