Anyone here have GR20?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking about buying one. I want it for the synth/lead effects. Yes, I know I can buy an Synth Keyboard but why learn a new instrument if I can get it on my bass. My question is, how do the Synth sounds sound? I'm trying to find like deep fuzzy synth and some other ones but cannot find a demo or soundclip for the life of me. Everyone seems to purchase it to sound like a bongo or violin or some crap ha.

Thanks

I'll check out the review but I saw a demo for it and it didn't seem to have the synth sounds I was looking for.

Yes, it works on bass after you update to 2.0.

I use a GI-20 with GK-2b pickup and it tracks great for synthy fusion sounds out of my oberheim and waldorf keys. I was not impressed with the GR-20 onboard sounds but I already have a great synth setup so I'm probably biased.

Ya, I was looking at the Axom AX50 which looks almost identical ha. My question is can I send that signal into my amp or is it just to computer?

They don't have a GR-20? That's strange... my GC has it and the next GC over has one too...

Ask a salesman if they have the display in the back for some reason.

I might have to make a drive to try this out. Not comortable throwing 500+ down for something I can't try.

you can try it out. If you tell any salesman that you're interested in something with a 700$ price tag, they'll be your slave

bought one from MF. They do have the 30 day return deal you know ? You really don't have to drive... and frankly - you won;t be able to suss the thing in a 30 minute demo anyway ...

anyway - I sent mine back. Some of hteonb board sounds were decent but there is not a lot of synthesis going on there.

A Korg R3 and a couple of months in the shed with it would be a lot more fun IMO ...

Well, thread resurrection. The GR-20 I did send back but now I think I'm doing it again. A Godin A4 with Synth Access is a recent arrival. From what I can tell, the Axon does not agree with the RMC pickups. Something about computer ground leak from the USB connection back into the onboard electronics on the bass. So comuter ground noise ends up in your preamp and back down he cable to your amp - not good. Not good at all. Particularly as the Axon 50 looks like a pretty cool unit other wise. If you stay straight midi and don't involve the USB - cutting your midi bandwidth by 75 % - then it is appraently not a problem.

Effectively, the cut in bandwidth is unlikely to be a real issue with bass but - Axon seems to not want to address the issue at all. From what I read on hteir forum Customer Service and attention to Customer requirements/needs/desires is not a strong point with them so ...

Hello GR-20! I see it mostly as a tracking device. I'll probaly use the tuba/bari-sax/organ patches on board for live stuff. In the home studio, it will probably just drive noise maker's like Reason's Thor and Korg's MS-20.

I guess there will be more to come later... due in tomorrow ...

I have a GR-20 now with the GK3B pickup installed on my MIA Fender Jazz Deluxe V, this thing rocks!!!.
I have no issues with the tracking, as expected there is a delay in the two lower strings. I am finding the synths and pads useful as ambiant backing while i play my usual bass lines.
I quite like the Old wood acoustic bass sound in this thing, the GR-20 is midi connected with my Boss GT-10B, so i have made a new patch set on both units, as they both change patch together.

I've been using mine again and taking out with me from here on. Using it with a looper, ambient sounds in the background or doubling slightly in the background during a solo is just too cool!
