Why no opinion on the song or the band? Gorgoroth are pretty good. Not great, but good. Gaahl has some pretty interesting things to say at the very least.

I hear a punchy, clean bass tone. I don't think effects are going to help with that.

+1 absolutely. All you need is a bass and a big amp and cab. Zero effects.

I enjoyed watching that especially because I just finished watching season one of Metalocalypse.

Regardless of one's thoughts concerning the band or music itself, I heard a cutting bass tone through a wall of distorted guitars. I wish I could say the same about a multitude of other acts.

Agreed. Usually that type of music has no bass or the bass is so burried that they might as well not have a bassist. Sounds pretty damn punchy to me for metal.

and use an active bass. extra sterile sounding.

id boost mid to high mids, not a ton of high end. keep lows under control and maybe keep 200-500 flat so it doesnt get too brown sounding.

i couldnt hear the bass without headphones... so it wasnt cutting through THAT well.
