Is Anyone Running a Bad Monkey with their VT Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently traded into a Bad Monkey, and for kicks, put it into my board. Wow, it really fattens things up. I use it with low gain and volume.
I've been experimenting with it before and after the VT Bass, and haven't decided which I like better.
Anyone else using both, and which do you put first?
Thanks for any replies.

Right now I have both in my board.

A little background: Just bought the BM for my keyboard rig, but all my pedals go in the same pedalboard. Soon I'll get a true bypass looper so I can effectively separate the key and bass pedals.

Didn't try many combinations but it sounded pretty much the same before and after the VT. One thing I didn't like too much about the Monkey is that when you have the EQ in the flat 12:00 position it isn't flat and it rolls off lowend. I can dial the lows back in with the LOW knob @ 3:00, but still doesn't sound exactly like when the pedal is off.

I like the drive the GAIN knob gives! In fact, I prefer the drive from the VT (bassier, juicier) but the BM does its job too, as long as you EQ it.

I'm still messing around with it, but I'm liking so far! And for the price I paid for it (about 1/5 of the VT price here in Brazil) it sure kicks some buttocks!! I like the BM way more than my late Ibanez TS7!

I've been really impressed with the sound I've gotten with my bad monkey, and am actually considering getting a VT bass this week. I will keep you posted!

I think you'll like them together.
Post when you pick-up a VT.

The only down side I can see is the resulting compression. As much as I like the tone, I've stopped using my BM as I have always on compression and the BM compresses and (as Bongo put it) 'de-articulates' your dynamics a little too much. Running running into a VT which also compresses as a by product of tube emulation may be a bit too much.

I think I'm pretty close to settled on my settings on these two pedals. Here's some clips:

PS - Personally, I dig the compression from these pedals.

Here you can see my settings used in the clips:

The BM and VT are a really great pair.
