Anyone tried this?

I was at the music store, and they had this display with probably every effect Boss makes. So I plugged a jazz bass into a blues driver and then a bass equalizer. I liked the sound, but maybe it was just because my ear isn't so great and it was a music store (where everything sounds much better). Has anyone tried doing these two pedals in tandem, the sound was nice and fuzzy, but I'm kind of new to bass with a lot of effects.

A lot of bass players use the Blues Driver. It's a cool dynamic overdrive that isn't TOTALLY kind to the low end, but it sounds like the bass equalizer was set to compensate for that loss as much as it could. Another way to do that would be putting it in an effects loop.

But what sounds good IS good. Listen to lots of stuff, try it out, trust your judgement, shop used, resell what you're not using, rinse, repeat.

You may also want to check out an Ibanez tube screamer which is similar and sometimes (depending on the model) has less bass loss. I just picked up an Ibanez Mostortion (a suped up 80s TS) which has a three-band EQ built in -- it is fantastic.

Keep in mind that when you're playing bass by yourself, you won't be able to really tell how a pedal will sound in a band context. I've messed around with a few pedals that sound awesome by themselves, but disappear in a band.

I'm experimenting again with my Ibanez Tube Screamer - mine is the TS-10 - and it's quickly becoming a pedal that I want on hot standby when I play. It doesn't seem to kill much of my low end and I get a sound that's a lot more rich and useful with this pedal than with some of the cheezy overdrive or distortion gizmos I've seen.
