Anyone tried the new Vox Time Machine?

I saw these were now available and was curious whether anyone had tried one. It looks like a simple flexible delay. I'm getting a bit fed up with the tap tempo on the Hardwire.

I have one.

I really dig it but mine will be up for sale soon only because I went from two boards to two and the Headrush can also do looping. But as a straight delay I like the Vox more.

It was exactly what I was looking for - good sounding, simple delay with tap tempo with separate stomps for bypass and tempo. It has a "lo-fi" switch that I don't use but the "vintage mode" is nice.

That's the interesting thing with this delay. It has knobs to select a delay range. The first setting has a max of 125 ms and the last 1000 ms (or 1 second). I forget the middle two. So I initially thought that 1 second was the max delay time. But if you use tap tempo you can get something like 5.6 or 5.8 seconds.

So basically I tap in every time other than something like a slapback setting where the knobs can give a little more precision for such a small delay time.

I went into my local music store today to look at either the Carbon Copy or Memory Boy and they recommended the Time Machine as better than either ( they tried to recommend the DD3 as well, but I really don't want digital...and no true bypass)
I never got a chance to audition it though....wondering if there are any thoughts on it.

Anybody that would recommend the Time Machine as "better" than the Carbon Copy or Memory Boy doesn't know their stuff. One is digital (warm sounding but still digital) and tap tempo and the other two are inexpensive but good sounding analog pedals.

What am I, chopped liver?

I do know that I saw at least one other TBer's pedalboard that had the Vox on it. Again, I think it's great for what it is.

Thanks, I appreciate it.....is this true bypass ? You said one is digital.....I assume then the Time Machine is digital ?

I don't think the Vox is true bypass. But I prefer a good buffered bypass to TBP and that's what the VOX has. Yes, the Time Machine is digital. The only analog pedals that have tap tempo (that I know of) are the Diamond Memory Lane and the Malekko 919 (when it comes out - likely a year away or so).

On "vintage" mode it does a nice tape emulation, but that's a very different sound than the thick, warm, dark repeats of an analog delay. Personally I like analog delays much more by themselves and digital much more in the mix as they don't muddy things up as much.

If I was big on self-oscillation I'd likely opt for an analog delay.

If your counting pedals that haven't come out yet, the Memory Boy Deluxe seems to have tap tempo, and will probablly beat the 919 to the market.

I was using a carbon copy and my guitarist had a Time Machine. When he decided to sell it, I tried it out on bass and loved it.

Sold off the CC and have no regrets.
