anyone use line6 pod as preamp?

just curious if anyone has tried a line6 bass pod of some type with a power amp for their main rig. i really liked my bass pod live when i had it and was wondering how a bass pod pro and power amp solution would work in a live situation?

I saw a guy playing a large patio gig about a month ago that was using a POD through a single powered JBL 15" PA speaker. He sounded very good.

Probably more common to go straight to PA but some guys go through an amp. Try a search, lots of previous posts.

Using a Bass PODXTLive in front of BOSE PAS for "small to medium" jobs:

and this(LINE6->DBX166xL->QSC2402's -> ACME B2's The SansAmp feds a "dry" DI to FOH) for the big places with FOH support(opening act's bass as they all went via CrabHamperII):

PS: That HOLE in the bottom of the Crab Hamper may get filled with a Behringer V-Amp Pro as their POD has some(SOME) decent sounds. That and the XT Live is not stereo!!!

I use the original Bass Pod Pro through a Hartke 2000 and take a (modelled) line out to the PA. Effectively I use it as a cheap way of bi-amping as I let the PA deal with all the low end and my rig copes with the mids and highs. I've always been happy with this set up - the Hartke has a lovely clean tone which lends itself well to being manipulated, and I then use the Pod in front of it to tailor the tone, generally using an SVT setting. I use the tube preamp in the Hartke to then dirty the sound a little, plus the cabs I use (KMD 1x15s) add a little more dirt to the sound so it sounds very organic by the time it reaches your ears.

I've got a XT Pro into a 1000 Watt Amp into a SWR 6x10. I've got a very nice clean and distortion sound from it. Should be getting the foot controller tomorrow so I can switch between the tones and keep the volume more in check.

I have been wondering about this myself. I have been using a line6 Bass POD LIVE XT into a QSC 2402 and 2502. It does not hav enough power to get enough juice to them.

Let first state I'm not being a smart a*&. Have you tried the line/instrument switch to get more juice to your poweramps?

I use it from time to time as a pre and it has plenty of juice. Granted, I have the bean version, but it's not that much different. Do you have the output maxed out?

If you are using effects, sometimes you need to go into the submenus and turn the input volume up on that particular effect.

I mean, its stupid crazy to miss something somewhere in the list that the amp produces. Just because you can't physically see all the settings at once, like you do on a pedal board. at least, that was my first impression/dissatisfaction with it. It just takes time.

Fnny thing is, I am doing all the things you guys suggest.... sigh...
I have to turn the foot pedal "MIN VOLUME" to 50% to get enough voltage. Funny thing is that when I turn the minumum up nad the toe is down it gets louder as if toe down was only 25% and once i pass that I am turning up the volume.

hmmm.

I'm not familiar with the Live version, but is there a calibration setting for the volume pedal?

there is on the XT Pro.

Is the DB pad switch been kicked on? Like for active instruments if you are using a passive? Maybe the cable too.

If not, I'm at loss. May want to contact Line 6 directly and see what they'd recommend.

If you have a low numbered Bass POD XT Pro, there was an issue with output volume. Contact your local Line 6 service center and refer them to Tech Bulletin #19. I had the fix done to mine and there was a big volume increase.
Again, this is only with the BPXT Pro.
