Anyone use an Outboard Sad Pre w/Active Bass?

I know you can bypass the pre and use strictly as a DI, but I was wondering if anyone used an active bass with the pre-amp and what the results were.

Is it too redundant or does it add?

Thanks...

Redundant. Potentially you might prefer the frequency points it boosts over the points boosted by your onboard preamp, but the difference would only be noticeable at home, soloed, IMO.

I was mucking about with my new Fender MIA Dlx it is a 18 volt active pre and was using the sad pre-di with it (going through my swr baby baby blue). While it was really nice without the sadowski, it was also nice with it too. Just a slightly different kind of nice.

I don't have a Sadowsky but I've been using my Seymour Duncan Paranormal with my EMG BTS loaded bass and loving the results. The BTS doesn't have a mid control and the Paranormal does. I don't know what all the frequency points are, but the two EQs work well together. I guess, in short, depends on the exact preamp in the bass and what your ears like.

Back in the day, I ran my Steinberger XL-2 through one. I LOVED what it did for the low end. It does wonders to warm up EMG's.

I used one with an active Stingray a few years back with good results. It added more booty!
