I don't have room for a big phaser so I was wondering if something like the MXR 90 and its copies can do the slow envelope filtery sweep I am looking to use for repetitive or percussive lines.
Thanks |

I use a phaser for slap, and it sounds really good if you get the tempo/rate right. I prefer an envelope filter or a wah wah though. That said, phaser >> flanger is the best slap tone I've ever come across.
Haven't you seen the Larry Graham pedal demo? http://youtube.com/watch?v=NSiACMzEKRM |

It went through several set ups before I felt I was finished. As it happens, I wound up with a couple of pedals beside my board. They go in the provided loop, so even though my aim was total self containment, it worked out slightly larger. So now I've got two pedals on the floor, right next to my board, but I've got everything I need, (or, want), and it works fine. Might be just what the Dr ordered for you, as well. |

The MXR sounded too full for me. |

On a side note... I normally don't slap with a phaser. I'm not too great at slapping to begin with. However... when I had the opportunity to try out the EHX Polyphase a few weeks back, I was overtaken by the sudden urge to funk out with some slap bass playing! The same could be said for my Strat-wielding buddy, who was as impressed as I was with the envelope-triggered phasing the Polyphase offered.
