Anyone used a Nano Muff?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got one today after playing it at a music shop near my college. I like it, not too heavy of an OD. I have noticed though that when I played it through a fender usa jazz and the fender basman250watt 1x15 combo at the music shop it sounds better than when I use it through my GK700rb, glx 410, and ibby sr800. The OD isnt as strong, any ideas why?

Oh and I almost forgot, Im not an effects expert by any means so sorry if this is a really simple question. I just couldnt find alot of info on the nano muff on here.

it is more of a guitar pedal than a bass pedal. try something from the big muff family, i bet you will like it much better.

yes- the Russian is an excellent choice. Recently my guitarist was like "man, I like my Russian, but I don't know if it fits me, I think I'll get a Boss Blues Driver instead...", which of course means I get a Russian Big Muff to play with!

Maybe he wants an overdrive not a fuzz.

OP its probably an impedance thing, active and passive basses can react very differently through pedals.

yup. it is the combination of bass and amp. cant really compare it if you used a 115 against a 410. that is a real good pedal for bass tho. you could use it from a clean boost, to a dark boost, to a real dark muddy drive... going from how much you turn the knobs =p

When I brought it home and plugged in I immediately thought some of the difference was due to my ibby being active, and that it sounds nothing at all like a 2008 MIA Jazz lol. I didnt think my head and cab would make much difference though. I mean I know a 115 and a 410 sound way different but I didnt think it would effect the character of the OD. It does give me a good boost though, I was impressed I retained so much low end. And you're right it does give a good dark, slightly OD, sound I like it for my finger style.

Thanks for all the input!

A friend of mine had a nano muff and I liked it a lot with his J bass, warm and mild, but it sounded too harsh with my active Stingray copy.

Well my problem is it isnt wild enough, I did like the boost it seemed to give but I can already use my Sansamp for a boost of sorts, so I think Im going to exchange it for a new pedal today and cover the difference. Probably another OD or a Dist/Fuzz.

I use the full size metal muff.
you can boost the low end really well with it.

If it's not wild enough, then you might want a full-blown fuzz pedal. Try something "bigger" than Nano.

But getting to the tone/"strength" thing... it's not the pedal, but what's driving it, and what it's playing through. Perhaps the Jazz you used expresses some characteristic through the Nano Muff that your Ibby doesn't, and vice-versa.

Between what you used at the shop and what you used at home, they're two entirely different rigs. So why would the pedal produce the same result?
