Anyone Using a Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a Boss CS-3 in a trade and wondering if anyone is using/liking it for bass.
Not really interested in $ for modding. Wondering how anyone likes it, as is.
Thanks for any opinions.

I bought a CS-3 a few years ago and then traded last February for an EBS MultiComp. Sold the EBS and bought another CS-3 (non modded). Realized that I really liked the CS-3 mostly for its sustain qualities. For compression, my amp head has a single-knob compressor that works well for me. Probably lost a few bucks along the way, but that kept me busy for awhile ....

I like it better for guitar, but it had a couple of settings that worked nice for bass. I recall setting the attack and sustain at about 9 oclock, the tone at about 2 oclock, and getting a good sound for slap.

i only played it on my guitarist's rig who had it on his pedal board. i recall how much it completely squished the attack (in a cool way). kind of created a volume swell. i didn't notice his settings, but it was always interesting to play. never played it with a bass though...sorry.

It's good for extreme squashing. Loses some low end.

I use it, it's one of the certainties on my pedalboard.
In one song I use it in the intro to get some clearer attack and some extra sustain when I'm playing solo picking chords. I also use it as a limiter to drive my boost pedal into a slight overdrive without the huge volume boost.

I have one that I tried with bass once and it seemed cool. I also bought all the parts to perform the mod I read on BongoMania/Omni's site. My soldering skills are non-existent though so I might just keep it stock.

I have a modded one (for sale actually) that I liked alot, before I went the rack path and got a BBE Maxcom. The modded CS-3 had really good sustain. If I was using any other pedals in my setup, I would totally be using this as my compressor.

I have one and I use it. Check for older threads on it. There is a TBer on here knows everything you need to know about compressing your sound and the use of the CS-3 he has a very informative article posted

I use the Behringer clone of the this. Mainly used with my bridge PU for a Jaco type tone, either fretted or fretless. Helps me to nail that "farting motorboat" sound.

How do you do the exchange for the two parts that need wire jumper? I have the parts but I'm not sure how they go on. Yes this is my first time soldering. Got everything else in there though...
