Hello, I was looking at the tech 21 sansamp bass driver, and I wanted to know if theres anything similar to this? I've looked into the BDI21, but it doesn't really seem sturdy enough, although, it seems like a fairly decent alternative, the only problem is that, if its not sturdy enough, it could easily break down on me.
Thanks in advance. |

I would say the bigger issue is would you be happy with the sound of it.

I use it as a preamp, leave it on, and on top of my amp. However, the case is plastic and could possibly fail you were constantly stomping on it. |

It has all the same tone features, Its pretty sturdy and I like the sound better than the SansAmp. For one, the toggle footswitch is in the center of the pedal unlike the sansamp bass driver DI which is way in the corner for some reason. SansAmp has more grit and can give you that exact Chris Squire / Justin Chancelor / etc.. sound. The difference I notice is the sansamp really replaces your tone with its own recognizable sound when you kick up the blend knob while the behringer blends in its eq and presence to sound like a brighter extension of your bass sound.
Also ... Alot of rock bassists I know replaced their sansamp with a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal.

Thanks in advance. | I have had my Behringer BDI21 for 3 years now. Seems sturdy enough for my use. How much do you weigh?

Why don't you just buy one ? |

| | And I went BING BOP. BINGA BINGA BING BING BOP. | | Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin | | | I went for the SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver DI. I'm pretty happy with it. I use it in a pretty subtle way. Just enough sizzle and grit to give me that "playing out of a big tube amp" feel. Or a close facsimile thereof. I also enjoy the fact that it's a DI, that the front of house can take it right from my board, leaving my amp EQ just for me onstage.
Problem is, it's using up like 1/3 of my pedal train mini. I shouldn't have gotten the programmable one, maybe. I don't use the presets. I just basically run it on all the time and on one single setting.
If I could get a bit-o-sizzle, plus an XLR DI out in a smaller pedal I might sell the PBDDI and get it. But I'm not sure what I would get to replace it.
Right now "keep it" is the frontrunner. But I'm just daydreaming that it would be nice to get a little of that pedal board space back. |

It has xlr out and 1/4 inch out, so it can be used for front of house and your amp at the same time. Boosts clarity, and when you switch to the distortion channel, seems to boost the clarity and audability of the bass in a mix- which is the exact opposite of most other distortions which make the bass muddy or thin.
I have used this pedal a few times to record. It sounded especially great with a P-bass in a rocking situation with distorted guitars. Also sounded great as a piezo upright bass DI.
