Aphex 651 Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got one of these units and I'm having a hard time integrating it into my signal path.

It looks like there's two ways to do this.

1. Use XLR jacks
2. Use the effects loop with 1/4" jacks

Since I mostly use 1/4" - I chose #2. Problem is, when I plug in the two cables (send cable to receive on my amp, receive to the send on my amp) I get no sound at all. The input meter on the Aphex seems to be working properly but it's like no signal is being passed back to the amp.

Just wondering if I'm doing it right or not. Big points to anyone who can help me out.

Thanks.

I figured it out - those side chain inputs on the Aphex are only for linking 2 651's together. I bought a couple of short XLR to 1/4" cables and hooked up the standard input and output on the Aphex to the effects loop on my amp.

BTW, the Aphex 651 is an amazing compressor. Been playing with it all day.

Easily one of the best compressors ever made IMO!

Agreed. I was using an Aphex punch factory pedal. The 651 makes it sound like a tonka toy.
