Question Aphex Bass Xciter question

Sign in to disble this ad
New to the forum and would like to say thanks to all, I've been reading your posts and researching for a while.

Aphex Bass Xciter, just got one off of ebay today and am curious as to where to put it in a chain. On the Xciter if I don't select "active" on the box it distorts terribly and if I do then my signal is seriously reduced.
I've got all active basses and a Genz amp on which I have "active" selected on the preamp.

Should I run the Xciter first in the chain with active selected and deselect active on the amp? Or is something wrong with my used Xciter.
Thanks in advance, Ben

i haven't had a chance to try aphex on active but it works fine on passive... i put it first cuz it cures the tracking of most octavers!!!

experiment what else can i say... but i am realizing more and more that active basses are bunch of bull sh... they are quieter and artificial!!!

it excites the sound and makes it sing.

no actually what does is make you bass sound better than it does, it enhances the frequencies of your bass and it gives you more bottom and can give you a crisper top. basically you can get a HUGE sound and when i say huge I mean, i had to turn down my amp a lot to compensate when the effect was on because pictures started falling off the wall.

Ampeg SVT what did you do to solve your input/distortion issues?

Are you powering this by a battery? The manual says it will distort the sound if the battery is running low. Strangely, the power supply input accepts from 9v to 32v or something, I'm not sure if the behaviour of it changes at low/high voltages. If you're using a battery, try a power supply anyway.

Nop, I'm using a 9v Godlyke pwr supply. I'm wondering if this is a blown unit or if this is just something I need to rig up differently or what.

It probably won't change a bit since I'm pretty sure they use a regulator inside, which gives out 9VDC as long as you feed it with anything between 9VDC and in this case probably 32VDC...

Thats very true, it makes your bass sound huge but theres a downside to this. The bass sound will cover a bigger spectrum of frequency's so it actualy sound very good if you play alone. On the other hand, it will be hell for a soundman to make your bass cut through the mix in a live situation. If you have to turn down you amp because of this, imagine what the soundman has to do in a 10-20k watts PA

every device when not used properly causes problems!!!
same goes for exciter if you go too far one way or another there are gonna be problems!!! use it reasonable and you will be a happy user!!! i think it is written some where in the manual at least in the big brother aphex 204... a little goes a long way!!!

Recall the "Mega-Bass" button on your old boombox? That's what it does. Simply put.
