ART TubeMP OPL?

Sign in to disble this ad
I think I want an ART TubeMP V3 (2, actually) - but am curious about some things:

1: How effective is the OPL limiter?

my amp is digital and I want to maximize the digital conversion/bitrate/fidelity by keeping the signal as hot as possible to my amp but without any significant transients after an envelope follower, or slapping.

2: how much will the tube naturally compress my tone?

While I want the limiter to be relatively effective, and I am not opposed to light tube compression, I want to be sure that this won't be overdoing it. I don't expect that this unit will kill my definition, but I should ask...

3: If I had one at the beginning of my chain for a preamp tone and one at the end for a limiter and for output gain control, what problems (aside from having to use 2 wall warts) would I encounter? (overkill/superfluous is not a PROBLEM)

Thanks in advance.

The OPL is a limiter circuit not a compressor and the Tube MP is clean but not really all that warm so not at all good for a vintage warm tone.

Limiter = compressor with a high ratio.

1. Tubes tubes tend to compress even just a little
2. As a preamp and a clean one at that, I'm looking for some very subtle (i mean very) colour in and out.

Maybe not the V3 but certainly interested in having proper control over my gainstaging.

I understand that this unit sounds very nice for the money and if it's a useful tool and i can find them for a low price then this choice would make a lot of sense.

It would also give me a reason to save up for an AC power supply in the future.

It is a cool unit and there is certainly room for some voicing variations experimenting with different tubes & using the various V3 settings. Just understand it is not at all willing to overdrive and sounds horrible for that.
