ARTEC APW7 review

Sign in to disble this ad

after my old black cat moan started to resonate and the pots started to get scratchy... i took it for repair and then when it still resonated on my special single coils(danelectro type) i gave it to my cousin a great guitar player... it seams that the resonance was gone with guitars... but enough about that old thing...

i started to miss a manual wah and started to search high and low... tried lots o stuff but didn't like any thing cuz still none of wahs out there came close to my old black cat moan and most where over 100eur which is too much for a wah...

so i said i will try this artec!!! it was at a reasonable price 65eur so i gave it a go...

the unit itself looks solid but feels much lighter than my EBjr vol which is similar in size its made out of sheet metal... the best thing is that it has no pot!!! it has some sort of magnetic sensor that senses the rocker movement... so this is a big plus... there a re two pots on the front and a mini switch... one is for range we all know what this does... then there is the bass switch witch drops the range by a octave... then we get to the part where i love this thing... wish knob... now what the **** is that??? its a resonance control... if you turn it all the way it self resonates and you can play it like a theremin or a filter on a synth... if you put your guitar signal before the wah high enough it has a strange ring modulation capabilities... combining the resonance and original signal (those of you that know resonant filters know that when resonance reaches its max. peak the rest of the audio signal gets lost under ear splitting highs)

all in all its a great wah and for the price there is no competition!!! only time will tell how it will hold up to road use...

sorry i can't provide any clips cuz i don't have my jamman any more...

Sounds interesting. Can you tell is Artec more similar to Morley or Dunlop? Is the heel low freq of the sweep?

the heel is the low freq like in most wahs...

hmmm dunlop or morley???? it can sound like a cry baby in some high settings but that is not much use on bass... i never liked morleys so i don't think it is similar to it but i am sure it can emulate it since you can determine the range and resonance peak... basically it can emulate any wah because of the specific controls that are available in this pedal...

Thanks, I have never liked Morley`s sound or feel so I guess Artec could do.

this wah has lots of capability's... it does all the wah tones you ever want and then some... for me a mag pot and a range knob is all i need but the wish knob is top notch!!!

Bump... looking to get a wah again and wondered if anybody else has tried one if these since this review was posted?

fuNKmaster83 - which do you think sounds better, this or the Black Cat Moan? Somebody told me the Black Cat moan has low end loss, what do you say to that?

I have pulled the trigger on one of these! Let's see how long it takes to get here, the UK postal service is crap at the moment...
