Ashdown Drive Plus Confusion

Sign in to disble this ad
I've seen two essentially different versions of this pedal, One which has "Input, Drive, Dist Tone, Dist Level (to mix clean and wet signal), Output" Which is the one which I THINK i have on order (more to the point, the one i want) , but there is also a second Version Ive seen which has "input, LF Drive, HF Drive, Blend and output"...

The ashdown website describes the first version I named but, the PDF Manual has the LF/HF/Blend one?!!

Anyone care to shine a light on this?

There was an older version that had different controls. It seems they didn't update the manual.

Here's my manual.

I didn't think the "first version" made it past the prototype stage. I thought that by the time the product hit the market, it didn't match the pictures of the product posted on line. So far as I know, your supposed version 2 is the ONLY version. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Rather strange then seeing as more than 50% of the sites i've seen stocking it, have this fabled version 1 of it... I'll probably cancel the order of this pedal then, especially seeing as ive been waiting nearly 2 weeks with the website saying it would have been in stock on thursday, and wasn't... :P

Anyone recommend a good overdrive pedal that can mix the clean and wet signal? I played my bass through my Laney LC-50 for a while and the overdrive channel had an awesome crunchy bite to it...

AFAIK, the only production version has separate LF and HF drive, which is somewhat similar to a blend as you can keep the lows relatively clean whilst distorting the highs. From my experience, it is more of a light/medium overdrive than a true fuzz/distortion pedal.

I wouldn't necessarily give up on this pedal. While it doesn't mix clean and wet, you can drive the higher frequencies harder than the lower ones, which ends us helping preserve the "definition" like a clean/dirty mix does.

Definitely not a wild over the top pedal though

Nah i wasn't really aiming to get a wild and fuzzy pedal, I've already got a few of those :P I Just want a nice tidy crunchy overdriven sound like that of my guitar amp's overdrive channel which I used, Which going by the terrible sounding demo on the ashdown website, This should be able to do quite easily.

I just need it to come as soon as possible really as I've got a couple of gigs coming soon :O

Well it just came and to be honest it's not very good at all... There's a small amount of noise coming through even when the pedal is turned off and an annoying buzz when its turned on for starters.

I've got to have the input turned all the way full in order for the signal to actually begin to grind up but in terms of the amount of gain I can get, It's no where near the example on the ashdown website...

So basically I'm gonna send it back and get something different probably from GAK or Dolphin Music.. Can anyone recommend anything?

I don't have an awful lot of experience with bass od pedals but I have had good experiences with the Ibanez PD7 and Mesa V-Twin. I've heard nothing but good things about the Fulltone Bass Driver and presently I have the Boss ODB-3 but I'm not 100% satisfied with it. Some days I really like the tone from it and others I can't stand it, so I'm still kinda on the fence about recommending it to people. It does have a healthy amount of gain to it but it can be really brittle and fizzy if not set right with the type of pickups you're using.
