for those of you who went against the conventional wisdom of TB and picked one of these up.... How do you have your settings on the pedal and what sound are you trying to achieve with each? just curious and want some ideas where to start to get a good effect... currently i can get some great sounds but not a useable go to funk effect like i want, w/ my pickups passive it seems they arent hot enough to get the pedal working and w/ them active it turns in to more of a distortion pedal than funk machine.. any and all comments, suggestions, experiences are more than welcome... thanks again guys and gals!

I can't think of the settings off the top of my head, but I'll give a look tonight when I get home.
Does yours light up when you plug in the power, but even if it's bypassed? If not, then it's from the original production run and you'll have trouble making work with active pickups/preamp. In fact, I'm not sure if it will work at all, because I've never tried. Mine was from the later production run, which fixed that problem.
One piece of advice I can give you without seeing my settings: ignore the VU meter. Use your ears to tweak the input volume control, not your eyes.
I think this filter sounds good, but not awesome. A lot of people say it's unusable, and I find that to be a particularly harsh assessment, but whatever. It's not so good that I'll really take people to task for trashing it, but I won't pretend it's not on my board. Until the Catalinbread Hedonic Treadmill is available, that is. . . |

as for settings, i'll jot down what my is set to currently later tonight and post those in the morning. |

| | | | I have a newer one and I was actually impressed with it once I set the levels the way I wanted it.
using an active SR5 I still have to set the input volume all the way up and then I can clip the input if I'm not careful. This is a serious design flaw but my Stingray gets really syurpy and funky through this filter.

Input: 1
Peak: 1
Up/Down: 9
LP/BP: 5 (max)
Output: 12 (but this should be set to whatever gives you the volume difference you want between bypassed and on)
These are not the settings I normally use, but I don't usually use a funky voicing.
My bass is an Ibanez Roadgear with a 9V preamp. I usually use the input volume higher, but I usually use overdrive before the filter, so that's a completely different thing.
Hope these get you started. If you try these settings and you're still having trouble, post what your trouble is, and maybe I can help you tweak your way towards the funky promised land. |

Input: 12 o'clock
Peak: 11 o'clock
Up/Down: 2 o'clock
LP/BP: 2 o'clock
Output: 1 o'clock
it's a very subtle funky filter, just heard slightly on the muffled highs. (when i want a crazy filer, i engage the Frostwave Funk-A-Duck in a blender on just my high frequencies) |

With just my OD before it, it's a little bit synthy, and industrial, and then with octave and OD before it, it's a really nasty synthesizer tone. That's my usual use for it.
I've been trying to make it work with my Copilot FX Antenna 2, and while both are synthy, I can't get them to work together very well. I guess that makes sense, because the Antenna does weird things to my volume envelope, so an envelope controlled filter will react strangely. |

So at noon, you'd have half signal though the bandpass filter and half through the lowpass. I roll mine all the way to the lowpass, because that's what I prefer. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
