I brought this up in the
DIY Effects Makers thread, but thought it should have its own thread. Too many photos.
Bottom line, some effects are built into ridiculously large housing (Aguilar Octamizer, JL Hyperdrive, many amp footswitches). So I have endeavored to come up with solutions since I haven't found any posted online.
Below are the images for a James Lomenzo Hyperdrive... a pretty good drive pedal in a crazy large Ashdown effects housing. Take a look, and feel free to add comments or not.
Pedal board space can be at a premium for those of us that don't want to haul around a PT-2 jumbo whatever board. That said, I doff my hat to those that do, much respect and admiration!
As you can see in the photos, the VU meter can be easily disconnected (really don't need it for this pedal), and the footswitch can be placed anywhere. But, the knobs are set slightly below the jacks, so a standard flat top enclosure may be a problem.
Also, given the width of the board itself (5.5" x 3.75"), a fairly large housing would be needed, like 6" x 6", to leave room for the footswitch. This is, by the way, the same size as the original housing... (sigh)
Worth a shot I guess... I have specs for a rehousing of an Octamizer too, given that board's set up, probably wouldn't work without a u-shaped two piece enclosure.
I guess these pedal manufacturers know what their doing when they create these 'stylish' effects...
