Post Ashdown's James LoMenzo Hyperdrive pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I'm new here, so sorry if this topic was already discussed. I'm looking forward in buying a effect pedal for my bass and can't choose between Ashdown's James LoMenzo Hyperdrive and Ibanez PD-7. Have anyone used them? Ibanez costs 55 EUR +delivery and Ashdown - 66 EUR (in local store).

What can you tell about them? I've heard people making good reviews on Ashdown.

Thank you.

I've had an Ibanez pd-7. it's a pretty decent bass overdrive pedal. this overdrive pedal preserves a lot of lows. even at heavier settings. it's a little bluesy sounding in my opinion. if you wanted a heavier sounding distortion, go with the ashdown james lomenzo hyperdrive pedal. I also would recommend the digitech xbd bass overdrive/distortion pedal, the tech 21 xxl bass edition distortion pedal, and the mxr bass d.i+ if you play metal.

Ashdown has made some good amps, but has never been a company with a good reputation for effects. However, for that price, I think the Hyperdrive would be a good choice. Nothing wrong with the Ibanez PD-7, though - it's a real sleeper of an overdrive for bass...

Nothing wrong at all with the Ibanez pd-7. I only said that it was a little bluesy sounding mainly because I'm more use to heavier distortion effects. other than that, the Ibanez pd-7 is not too shabby of choice for an overdrive pedal.

I hate the ashdown effect chassis. they're bulky, hard to adjust knobs, they have that ridiculous VU meter.

I can't say anything on the sound of either, just thought i'd toss in my $0.02

Not a fan of the Ibanez's overdriven sound although it does retain lows and has biting highs- all the sounds are in that ballpark, maybe with more or less treble. No midrange control except for backing off the extremes to bring it out. The Ashdown is Very adjustable. To be able to choose the frequency of the overdrive means chances are you'll get a sound you like. Fender Sublime is similar.
