Attack Control

Sign in to disble this ad
I saw a video of an EH Bass MicroSynth and really liked what the "attack" parameter was able to do. Are there any other pedals that do something similar? I don't really want to pay that much for the MicroSynth. (BTW if you havn't seen it, the attack control basically just faded in the bass if it was turned up, reduced the initial attack I guess).

Thanks

The "attack delay" slider on a BMS is really a volume swell. The old Boss Slow Gear does this, but is discontinued and go for several hundred dollars. Behringer makes a copy of this called the Slow Motion, and Guyatone also makes a copy called the SV-2 (these are both under $100). BYOC also has a kit for it if you'd like to try DIY.

Ok thanks. Has anyone had any experience with either the Behringer or the Guyatone?

The Guyatone's not bad. Better bypass than the old Slow Gear but not great.

And it has the same construction concerns that all the Guyatone minis do, but I haven't had one break on me. I've heard the BYOC version is better but I haven't tried it.

I had the BYOC Lazy Sprocket. I bought it prebuilt. It really only had one spot on the dial that worked at all with my active bass and I really had to play to it. It basically just did a fast swell, which is what I bought it for vs. a volume knob or pedal, and was pretty subtle. I could pretty much get the same feel with my fingers so I sold it.
Pigtronix makes the Attack Sustain which combines the attack delay with a compressor and a delay cut off. It does some crazy choppy tremolo type stuff as well. I've heard somewhat underwhelming things. My guitarist had one and returned it the next day, before I could try it. Oh yeah, it cost an arm and a leg.
