I just got my VT Bass pedal in the mail today. Happy Father's Day to me.
I decided to create a short recording that demonstrated what the Character knob does to the sound. The Character knob goes from the 7 o'clock position to the 5 o'clock position.
I played a 2 measure groove at the 7 o'clock position, then I played the same groove in the 9 o'clock position. I continued this process by turning the knob until I reached the 5 o'clock position.
I played my MIM Fender P Bass. The tone knob was at 50%. The strings are 4 year old TI Jazz Flats. I played the 2 measure groove fingerstyle. I ran the signal into my Fostex MR-8 recorder. I didn't do anything else to the recording. I kept it as pure as possible.
All the knobs on the VT Bass pedal were at 12 o'clock (except for the Character knob, of course).
I'm interested in hearing your reactions. The tone can be tweaked a lot with the EQ and playing style. I played with a medium attack. A couple times I dug in a bit and you can hear how the pedal reacts... I like it. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7724223
Peace,
Joe

I've compiled a bunch of different setting submitted by TB'ers into a spread and have shared it around. If you're interested in it send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you...

I have a gig this Friday and I'll give it a try. Almost got to take it to a rehearsal tonight but the delivery truck showed up 5 minutes after I left... figures!
Does the DHA VT1 have a tube in it?
Looking at your ESP P/J bass... is it active or passive? Do the knobs go Vol/Blend/Tone?
Peace,
Joe

I like that beefy sound with little grit in it.

The more gnarly sounds are growing on me, but I would cut some of that treble the Character knob provides as it is turned clockwise. It's a little too edgy for my ears. I wanted to keep the EQ at 12 o'clock just to demonstrate the functionality of the Character Knob.
Does anyone else have some good recordings of their VT Pedal? I've seen a lot of posts on this pedal, but not very much audio. The videos I watched on YouTube didn't really do the pedal much justice.

| | | | I tried those strings on my MIM P and it felt and sounded too loose and sloppy to me, but this sounds pretty good. I wonder if they just sound better to a listener than to the player. |

I feel like I have to work too hard to control higher tension strings. Plus, I think some of my technique with the TI Flats comes from my left hand controlling a portion of the attack and release.

That bass covers pretty much every style; but for gospel, I'm grabbing my 6 string.
