Ok, I know they are both great units and most likely l would be happy with either. My question is to those who have used both. I would like to know what tone difference is there between the two. Obviously the U5 cost more and has just a tone knob. So I would think the less expensive Tone Hammer would offer more flexibility with its separtae tone controls for bass and treble.

My use of one of these is two fold.
1. Recording DI in my studio.
2. Playing in church where I would have the output (XLR)of this going into the house speakers and the other output going to my bass amp to work as a monitor on stage.

well basically both are versatile in tone, probably the tone hammer give a little bit of more color to your bass tones. the u5 have several in/out that plus controls that can be pretty useful in studio scenario.
Cheers. Enrico
