The AW3 has the humanizer and autowah (LFO modulated wah) that the QTron+ doesn't have, but the QTron+ has the effects loop that the AW3 doesn't have. The AW3 also lets you add an expression pedal to play it like a traditional foot-controlled wah.
I liked the AW3 on paper because of all the different stuff I did, but I was always taking it on and off my board because I didn't love the sound of it. It's currently off, but it might not be off for good until I get a crack at the Catalinbread Hedonic Treadmill.
I've never played a QTron+, but the various QTrons are pretty well liked by others around here. I can't really see giving a crap about the effects loop (what I mean by that is that if you were going to use the effects loop, you'd already know it, you wouldn't need someone to tell you), so unless you really feel like you need autowah or humanizer modes, then it really comes down to the sound and the feel (i.e., how its sensitivity and particular filter-sweep characteristics interact with your playing). Unfortunately, it's really hard to buy an env filter from soundclips, because it depends so much on your particular touch. Try before you buy if possible, and make sure you've got a good return policy available if not. |

if i havent ever really used an evelope before, but want to mess around, while still buying something that will last me if i like it, should i go with the qtron+ or the micro tron?
the micro seems like it could turn me off to filters due to lack of apparent options |

I've been really wanting to try out one of the new q-tron+ XO pedals, but I haven't seen them out anywhere except on ebay..

Only one filter mode is really usable on bass, and it works beautifully - the Low Pass (LP) Filter. The others kill the lows. The Mini Q-Tron is no different, and I don't think the Q-Tron+ may be either.
On the early runs of the Micro Q-Tron, they labeled the filter positions in reverse! In other words, the "HP" filter is actually "LP", and vice-versa. Maybe you were using an early version with mixed-up labels?
