Check out Jacques Fuse Blower. (I don't know the specifics, but it doesn't sound anything like a Muff to my ears... much more musical.)

Rat isn't based on the Muff, as far as I know...

Check out bassfuzz.com, the Audimonk Fuzz Potion and Tentacle Love Super Fuzz are derived from a Shin-Ei Superfuzz I think. Also the new MXR 108 Classic Fuzz is based on a fuzz face and really rips with bass.

Right, the Fuzz Face derivatives are another flavor you should try. I use a Frantone Bassweet for that; my other favorite bass FF clone was the TecAmp Dream Buzz. But definitely check out that www.bassfuzz.com as Danny says.

+1 on the Fuzz Face ones. The Woolly Mammoth seems to be a derivative of the FF

Just my two cents...I don't really consider the RAT a fuzz...it's more distortion.

oldironsights - The Bluebeard is muff-based.

Of the ones I own-- The tentacle superfuzz is pretty wild. The Prunes&Custard is a filtery sounding fuzz that is very unique, and the Brown Dog gated fuzz is a great one too.

I've got a bass big muff and just recently picked up a silicon assmaster. Definately a different beast than a muff. But like everyone said, check out bassfuzz. Be prepared for GAS though...

I was gonna say that too... i didn't know if it was a muff derivative though...

Are the Boss FZ 2 or 5 based on a muff circuit? I have a friend that uses an FZ-2 and it sounds pretty good...

The Devi Ever Bit Legend Of Fuzz is definitely not based on a Muff. It's unlike anything else I've come across.

Look for Fuzz Face, Super Fuzz, Tone Bender, and octave fuzz variants.

Which is why I just ordered one.

Damn you, Effects forum, and your G.A.S. inducing qualities!

You can also use it as a noise gate.

I'm going to eventually build up a clone and mod it.

I love the Prunes & Custard. It and the Superfuzz type (e.g. the Guyatone TZ-2) are my favorite fuzzes.

The MXR Blue Box is probably not up your alley, but it's definitely different from a Muff.
