A/B Box Signal Splitter Unit

Sign in to disble this ad
Thinking about picking up an A/B Box or signal splitter so that I may be able to instantly send signal to one amp setup to compare the sound of each setup in relation to the other.

I have a nice Bag End/Alembic setup as my main rig. I set all the controls flat. I have an SWR 210 combo amp as my practice or B-rig. I notice I have to to pretty dramatic eq-ing to get it to sound a certain way. Ideally, I'd like to try (keyword, try) to match the SWR sound to the Bag End. The best way I can think of doing this is to use an A/B box or signal splitter.

I'm aware such a unit may itself affect the sound a bit, and at the different volumes, but as a fun experiment...

Anyone else tried to match tones this way?
Have a good success rate?
Have problems?

Welcoming your thoughts.

I would say wrong forum. The Effects forum has all the answers.

Also I would look into DIY. It's fun and cheap.

I did the same thing with my mid sized and large rigs. I used a Morley A/B splitter.

I was trying to see where I needed my DB750 set to sound like my AG500 and where the AG500 settings needed to be to reproduce the tone of the DB750 that I liked. It was kind of like comparing apples to oranges since they both sat atop different cabinets. However, it enabled me to see how closely I could make the rigs sound like eachother.
