A/b line selector question

Ok I have only just started thinking about this after seeing a similar comment regarding this awhile. I have started to play some synth in my current band and still playing bass, I was wondering with an A/B line selector am I able to have my synth and bass running through my pedal board set up? Excuse me if I have this all wrong, was just something I read awhile back and thought could make my life easier when playing life.

An A/B selector can be used to switch between two inputs (such as two different basses, or a bass and a synth in your case) or can be used to switch between two different outputs (two different amps, for example).

So yes, you could run your bass and synth through the same set of effects, just not at the same time.

A Boss LS-2 would do this, but is a bit of overkill. I would recommend an EHX switchblade or similar, unless you want all of the fancy blending.

This is also an easy DIY project.

Edit: If you want both running through at the same time, then that's a different story and you would definitely want an LS-2 for that.

With a Morley ABY pedal you can do everything.

Your synth probably runs at line level, and if your bass is passive it runs at a much lower level (closer to mic level). You'll need something with level control knobs to match the signal levels before they hit your effects chain. Even if you have an active bass it's probably a good idea.

So the EHX switchblade and the Morley ABY are not good choices. The LS-2, the Morley ABY MIX, or Carl Martin Match Box, might work.

I disagree that it's an easy DIY. If you're blending signals into one output you need active circuitry with buffers. It's not just a simple routing deal.

Also, avoid Behringer at all costs.

Am replying before reading on, but had to put my two cents in...I have used mixed signals through a Morley ABY quite often, it takes using a pedalboard with a volume control in the bass-line, and the synth can have a seperate channel no problem since it also has a volume knob.

However, your question might have been to run a bass AND a synth through the same effects board, then yes, you would have to be careful of input volumes, and a mini-mixer would work better.

Agreed to stay away from most behringer products. I like Mackie and Yamaha as far as small mixers go.
