B15 in a pedal??

ok, so ive been reading and searching the preamp and effects posts for like 3 weeks now, and there are so many options that its alittle overwhealming. id love to get that B15 warmth and breakup that james jamerson got, but also the more aggressive tome that bernard edwards got. im looking for a preamp or pedal that can give me that. ill be playing through a solid state amp. usually either a walter woods or an Acoustic image. the woods can warm up the tone too, but when using the AI all the tone will have to come from the pedal/preamp. AI doesnt do warm , at least for me it doesnt.

I've gotten great results with the Barber LindenEQ. It'll do straight up B15 tone, or you can switch in a more modern HF vibe, and you can also pull the bass pot to get more LF extension, rather than the standard tone that includes the high-pass.

It breaks up and gets aggressive if pushed. Love it.

I've got a Tech 21 VT Pedal that I run through the "poweramp in" jack of my Ampeg B2-RE head and into a Schroeder 1515L cabinet and it sounds absolutely wonderful. I use the B-15 emulation almost exclusively as I have Ampeg SVP CL & Ampeg SVP Pro preamps to cop the SVT sound and Alembic F-1X & Trace Elliot V-Type preamps to cop the Fender Showman/Bassman sound. I'd read a lot of great things about the VT Pedal before buying one and it has lived up to the hype in spades.

Just to point out, he recorded direct to the board. The warmth is all the tube studio gear they used back then (compressors, etc), his playing technique, and a p-bass with uber-dead flats.

Between the linden, flipster, and VT the VT has a much wider variety of tonal adjustments (BMT, drive, character) while the other two keep the bass and treble of the fliptop. If I were choosing between the linden and flipster I'd probably go with the flipster for the gain and master controls instead of just volume.

well i had never heard of the flipster before and i just listened to some clips. wow. very nice. all the clips ive heard of the vt pedal are people cranking the distortion to get an svt tone like geddy lee or even heavier. can the vt to subtle breakup like that flipster pedal?

also, where do we think the Catalinbread SFT would fit into this spectrum of sound goals?

There is also the SFT from Catalinbread,....but to be fair,....I can't comment on any of the pedals mentioned (nor the SFT).

I don't hear the breakup you are looking for in the vid,...but with the right noodling you should be able to get it.

I also heard hearsay that the VT Bass will get you to B15 tones as well.

+1 on The Linden EQ... It's become an always on pedal for me between my bass and amp. It even sounds great directly into a power amp as well.

I just got a Zoom B9.1ut and the B-15 model on it sounds great. It doesn't sound processed either which is a win. It is clearer than my B15N, but I am also not playing through a 40 year old speaker with it.

The VT bass can get you there, but the cab had a lot to do with the B-15's tone as well. A little small for a 15, no tweeter. Really heavy construction so there was hardly any energy lost to cab vibrations.
