Bad(der) Monkey into VT bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I love my VT bass and it's always on, but with very slight OD. I don't like it used as heavy OD. Any TBer's use the Bad Monkey into the VT with good results?

Ernie Ball Sterling> VT Bass> GK800RB> Two Ampeg 410's playing heavy rock looking for some more cut through dirt in certain spots.

I just saw one used for 25$ figured it's worth a shot. I would also consider the Humphrey Mod for another 55$

Haven't tried that particular combination... however, my experience with the Bass Big Muff Pi was quite positive. The VT Bass does a nice job of fattening up the fuzz.

I have that as my standard setup. I don't leave the VT on constantly, but if I want grit, kick it and the Bad Monkey on and it works very well. I don't go for all-out distortion, just a good overdrive and they stack well for that; the VT really warms up the drive.

I've heard the VT is a noisy pedal.
Is this true, and would the VT Bass amplify noise from other pedals before it? I'm so curious about running my Musket into it.

Bad/Badder Monkey in to the VT sounds glorious. I replaced my Badder Monkey with an Xotic Bass BB, which sounds almost the same but with the added benefits of being smaller and having true bypass!

i don't find it to be noisey at all. of course, if you have a noisey bass or another pedal that you use with it, it will amplify their noise, but using it alone with a standard p bass or a ric, IME, it isn't noisey. it does add high end so some level of noise is to be expected, but if you cut the treble down where it isn't being bossted to make your bass brighter, it really doesn't add any.

I don't find the VT Bass particulary noisy either.

It also sounds great with my BBM running into it. Its not the same pedal as you're asking about, but i think it would sound great with any overdrive/fuzz before it. For example without the VT on, my muff setting doesn't sound very good to me. I would set it completely different if i wasn't using the VT. It gives my muff a huge meaty tone.

No noise from my VT Bass at all. The treble control can get a bit insane on the VT though, which could add to existing buzzes, etc. I find that I have to dial back the treble to 9 or 10 o'clock to smooth things out to my liking, particularly when using the 'high gain' or 'crunch' variations.

i also do not find my VT noisey at all, that being said my drive doesn't see past 8 o'c. but even when i tool around it is not noisey. it can get noisey in extreme settings

thanks danny, i'm gonna grab it and send it to humphrey for the mod. i think i'll see if he can mod the bypass
