There have been several threads lately asking about what type of overdrive or distortion to get. Depending on the needs of the OP I usually recommend the Digitech Bad Monkey. There are to my knowledge no sound clips of the Bad Monkey with bass. So I threw this together quickly.
Ampeg PF-350/PF-115: Gain @ 10 o'clock, bass @ 2 o'clock, mid @ 1 o'clock, treble @ noon.
First part of clip is without the pedal.
Second: Level: 9 o'clock, low: 3 o'clock, high: 10 o'clock,
gain: 10 o'clock
Third: same except gain at 1 o'clock
Fourth: same except gain on full. Bad Monkey Samples by GJBassist on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
Hope this helps!

I set the Low at 2:00, and the High and Gain at 10:00. Sounds good, gives my tone just a bit of hair, which is how I like it. As always, YMMV.

i have 2 questions:
- don't you bad monkey users prefer to whack the lows up on full?? i find it a bit thin anywhere less than about 80%...
- is it worth getting the bass mod? i'd like a little more low end to play with if possible... |

I had a Bad Monkey with the Humphrey mod and there was a subtle difference, not huge. It sounds a bit better with bass with the mod but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $55. Wish I had one with the mod to to a comparison!

Doesn't sound like it loses any bass in the OP's clip, but the clip sounds pretty mid-focused without any monster bass to start with. Not bashing your clip, just mentioning my ears don't hear much raw bass.

It tends to favor the mids and highs a bit more. I will try to record it again with a P bass and see if I can fatten up the lows a bit more.

I also have a Boss GEB-7 Bass EQ further up the pedal chain, which really helps clean up any mud.

| | | | Bad monkey was one of my faves for more recent overdrive pedals for bass. Stacking two bad monekys one into the other works real nice to. Like most overdrive pedals a bass eq after it/them to restore low bass is best.

The heavy gain setting on the Bad Monkey reminded me of the tone at the beginning of that song so I went with it.
