Hey folks,
Did a search and didn't find a thread dedicated to Barber effects pedal users. Why not start one?

I'm not so much into the club thingy, so no numbers unless you really want 'em.

Let's use this as a forum to discuss Barber effects and our usage/implementation of them in our signal chains.

I've just done a review for my new Linden EQ. You can see it here:
Barber Linden EQ on the way

I should have my Silver LTD amd Tone Press reviewed soon and I'll post it in this thread. Feel free to do the same.

I have a LTD v2 sitting on my desk at my office. Once I get home I will be able to give it a test drive and comment.

I have a Barber Linden and find it an incredibly warm and useful EQ. Its my go to preamp for recording in my studio for everything.

Thanks, man. Cool lick around 27 sec. Were you using a blend?

Check it out, my peeps.

Bongo is NOT crazy!

For the record, I was concerned about purchasing the Tone Press due to Bongo's review in the compressor megathread. He claims to have heard the noise floor rushing up like the ocean as he sustained a note.

I was even more concerned that I couldn't hear this upon critical listening, mostly because I thought I must be deaf or in possession of crap gear.

Not so! Upon cranking the blend and sustain fully CW afew moments ago I thought I was at the beach. Voila- there were the waves surging on the shore and whooshing away back to the sea.

Now, this isn't a slam on the Tone Press AT ALL because I don't think anyone would EVER need or want to use that setting.

I just thought you'd want to know.

What settings do you usually use? Also, how does this compare to other compressors you have used?

No blend. It preserves lows really well I think.

I set vol. at unity gain (around 1 o'clock for me). Blend is about 10 o'clock as is sustain. I like it subtle and as transparent as possible and use it to tame peaks and even out my playing in the studio and live.

I also use it to sustain notes as an ambience effect when running reverb.

Most of my experience is with rack mount studio compressors by TL Audio, Focusrite, and the RNC and RNLA. This is my first foray into pedal compression for bass.

Yeah, I imagine at more extreme setting you would hear the ocean for sure. I'm going to go edit my review now, because after it came up in discussion the other day I've really been questioning whether I just had the wrong signal level going into it or something. It has no input level control, and over the years I've found that a lot of comp pedals require adjustment of the input level for good results- and that failing to do so can result in excess noise or too much/too little compression.

I'll try to pick up another one sometime in the near future for a more "educated" review.

But at least it's good to know I'm not totally crazy!!!

Does it do a good job at peak limiting, and does it "fatten" up your signal?

Tone Press - does it do peak limiting?

Yes, it does "fatten" up the signal; but I wouldn't say that it does peak limiting, per se.

Maybe someone else with Tone Press experience can chime in here. Hopefully, Ronni can jump in as well and enlighten us about the pedal.

Personally, I'm used to micromanaging compression via twiddling the threshhold, attack, release, knee, and makeup gain settings. All of these are absent on the Tone Press, by design, some I'm really trying hard to just let go of my anal retentive/obsessive compulsive tweaker's tendencies and just listen to the effect.

LTD > Tone Press > Linden EQ Sound Clip

Bass > LTD Silver > Tone Press > Linden EQ. I split the DI and a mic'ed signal from my Bassman 150 into a TL Audio DI. From there into my soundcard (Delta 1010) into SONAR 4. Cheesy drum loop looped throughout.

More info to follow. My wife beckons...

Free time

I think I'll get some more sound clips up tonight/tomorrow of the LTD, Tone Press and Linden. Stay tuned.

Any Barber user's out there? Join in, mang.

I'm a Launch Pad owner. I use it as a clean boost. It's at the end of my signal chain right before my amp.

Not yet, but very soon I'm going to replace my Sonic Stomp with a Linden. I'm very excited about this, moreso than other additions, which are also very cool, (like my Mk.4.23 clean boost). I'll be in this club soon, but as usual, won't be attending the meetings.
