Barge Concepts VBJr phase issue?

Sign in to disble this ad
So.

I recently picked up a Barge Concepts VBJR and its very cool. However I noticed a volume drop when the loop is activated. I was told it could be a phase issue. Is there any way I can find out if that is the problem and if so is there any mod to fix it?

Does sound like a phase issue, I get the same problem with my 442 filter - what have you got in the loop? If you bought it new, you could have paid a few extra $ and got a phase invert switch on your VB-Jr, or they could probably do the mod for you.

I would be very interested in how to do the mod myself though if anyone knows how. Is it just a case of flicking the signal between two different pins of an op-amp?

Is there any way you can boost the volume of the effect in the loop?

I had this same issue with a *certain* fuzz box, but found that it wasn't just the volume, but also the tone that was changed too.
Flipping the phase = problem solved, in my circumstance.

Ask Barge - they might know what's going on.

Inverting the phase of the processed signal will be *the* solution if the clean and processed signals are exactly 180 degrees out of phase. It will be an approximate solution if they are approximately 180 degrees out of phase.

If the two signals are closer to 90 degrees out of phase, though, inverting one signal's phase won't appreciably help you.

Another (sometimes more practical) approach is to adjust the boost in the blend loop so that you get the overall volume and blend that you want.
