Basic Pedal Board - Thoughts Please

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi - I'm interested in putting together a very basic pedal board for use with an MTD Grendel 4-String and a Yorkville XM200. I'm thinking of combining the following and would be interested in hearing from anyone who might have thoughts on whether this setup would work well together -- complementary effects without too much redundancy in the effects. Suggestions appreciated. (PS: I've read about each individually and all sound great in their own right).

1. Sansamp BDDI (or Paradriver, leaning toward BDDI b/c EQ on next pedal should control mids)

2. MXR M-108 10 Band Graphic EQ Pedal

3. EBS MultiComp Compressor

Thank you.

Looks good to me. Are you planning on leaving the SansAmp on all of the time? If so, the EBS might not be necessary because the BDDI provides a fair amount of compression on its own. If you plan on treating each pedal as an effect to be used periodically, then get both. Good luck.

Seems to me like the only rational choices for a pedal Sansamp are the Para and Programmable versions. Why would anybody spend the money on one that didn't have mids control or programmability, when those options don't cost so much more?

Thanks for your replies. I am thinking of leaving the Sansamp on all the time, and your comment regarding the compression is exactly the kind of thing I'm wonderning. Similarly, would the EQ from the MXR be significantly more than that obtained from the BDDI or Paradriver? Any other thoughts or suggestions for basic effects that I might be missing (mostly just want good versatile tone - nothing wild)? Thanks.

Yes. The MXR will cover much more ground EQ-wise than the SansAmp. I would start out with a Bass Driver or Para Driver and decide if you still need more tone-shaping options after you have learned what the SansAmp does and does not do. Good luck.

Collecting pedals can be addictive. I have a feeling you "basic pedalboard" may grow rapidly.
