That being said.....I think a chorus, and overdrive/fuzz type pedal are good to have....even though I have a crap ton more than I need. It all boils down to personal preference, and the sound you would like to acheive. |

EDIT: This isn't a dig at FX, but they certainly aren't a necessity. FWIW I use and love effects. Quote:

EDIT: I can't take credit for this awesome gif, but since CrispyD isn't around....
Seriously,...check the FAQ that is pinned at the top of the page. Then decide if you want Distortion or Fuzz. Personally I'd use a Fuzz with Thrash,...you might decide you'd rather have Distortion.

You could use anything from a Tubescreamer, to a DS-1, to an ODB-3 to a Bad Monkey, To a EBS Valve Drive to a EHX Big Muff.....
It's all how you perceive the sound to your ears. Most people would tell you that the Tubescream and the DS-1 and the ODB-3 is **** all for bass, but if you like it,...then nothing else matters.
Cheers |

I have a bunch of pedals and although I use them all and know when/why, I find the only times I've been able to use them as 'my sound' are few and far between.
Boss OS-2 is easily the best bang-for-buck drive/distortion.
Try it.
Aside from that, get a good preamp/D.I. unit.

...work on your bass/amp tone. Get huge sounds from that and then spend your money on effects. Best advice I never took when I should have.

It all depends on your style and preferences though. Try out different pedals, decide what best adds to your music. |

me on the other hand, am dependant on having my synth, a phaser, digitech whammy, 535Q wah, electronix messdrive, and lately, devi ever hyperion - and 10 other pedals that i pick and choose a few extras from for each gig.
i would recommend experimenting with anything that catches your eye, cause thats whatll end up being used.. not what us nerds over talkbass.com reccomend to you. |
