bass balls question

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I read alot of reviews but i can't seem to figure out if this pedal is right for what I'm looking tor. Is this going to give me a little dirt that im looking for? I play in a 5 piece band 2 guitars drums vox and bass, we play pop punk. And I'm looking to get more of the rude punk sound

It's not really a dirt pedal, it's a formant (vocal-effect) filter that has a dirt switch designed to give the filters more detail to work with.

It might work for you as a dirt pedal but I wouldn't count on it. You'd most likely be better off looking for a specific bass distortion pedal that has more features (clean blend control being a useful one on bass, adjustable mids being another).

[b]SansAmp Bass DI[/d] should be at the top of your list, it's an amp emulator (rather than a distortion pedal) which is what you really want for punk stuff.

I owned the Boss ODB3 and hated it. For the very rare times I need a distortion pedal, I'll just use some guitar unit...Tube Screamer, Fuzz Face, whatever.

A Sansamp would work if you just want that typical rock grit mid-scooped sound, or you could try the MXR M80 or Bass Blowtorch distortion, or a Muff or a Muff clone like the Pickle Pie 'B', depends how fuzzy you want to go really, there are a lot of options.

Bass Balls is not what you describe at all, look for a bass overdrive probably not the ODB3 but it's a place to start.
If you are new to effects you might check out an multi effects pedal like a Zoom B2 or other.

I also use this on a overdrive setting and it works well for in the few punkish songs my band plays... sounds raw enough to do it IMO.

Try it. I used to play with it in a punk band in highschool and it gave me just the right oomph. Not at all over the top but a certain something.
