Let me start off by saying Merry Christmas to everyone. I am going to be buying my first pedal soon and I was wondering what you think I should get. A EHX Bass Big Muff or a Boss DD-7.

It all depends on what would be more useful for you, dirt or delay.

I love delay, but it's not very useful for bass, IMO. Go with the Muff. That may be my new creedo. "Go with the Muff!"

don't ignore the fact that the dd-7 costs more than twice as much...

The reason I wanted the DD-7 was because of the capabilities of looping and delay. By popular vote it looks like I will be going with the Bass Big Muff, unless anyone suggests a better muff/distortion/fuzz pedal for less than $100.

Buy used. Then you can flip it in a few months for another pedal and not lose any money.

How about a used Big Muff and a used DD-3? That`ll end up costing you about $100-120 for both.

Although personally, I`d get a used muff and a used micro q-tron.

Like everyone said: dirt and delay... it's really personal what is more useful.

I'd rather be stranded with a delay pedal than with a dirtbox.

I generally don't like Muff on bass. I think it's simply boring. On geetar it's a different story.

Now you can start to throw tomatoes

Delay is the fun!

Of the two, the BBM is going to be more useful. However, I think there are pedals that are in the same $75-150 range that are better choices than either of them. Dirt, as a "genre" of effects, is more useful than delay, and there are some cool pedals that can be had for less than $150. The Homebrew Electronics Hematoma is a fantastic overdrive, and it has a clean boost. I got (and sold) mine for $110. The Pigtronix Disnortion is also awesome, and it is ridiculously versatile, since it has both overdrive and fuzz in parallel, in addition to an octave-up. I got mine used for $130. As it's been mentioned before, buy used! It's cheaper, and it cuts your losses if you don't like the pedal.

Now I don't know what to get. The DD-7 would sound great playing alone, I don't really know how it would sound in a jam setting. I am pretty sure distortion will sound really good in a jam setting. I don't know what to get since people are now saying DD-7 now. I will get both eventually I just don't know what to get now.
