Bass Big Muff Pi Feedback/Hum

Sign in to disble this ad
I usually use my BBM with the sustain dimed and the volume at 5, but I've noticed that, when engaged, there is a very audible hum if I'm not playing. When I turn up to gigging levels, I get serious feedback which makes it next to useless. Turning the sustain down helps, but I prefer the tone when it's all the way up.

Is this normal with BBMs or is there the a problem with my unit? I emailed EHX, but they basically said they had no idea.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds right to me. Turn it off between songs.

Sounds right to me to. Feedback is usually in your mids, try cutting them back on your amp a bit.

More, sustain = feedback. Muffs are loud and noisy.
Now that hum...check your power supply source (aka room/wall outlet).

Sounds good, I'll check that next time I get a chance!

Also, I guess my new question is: Are there any comparable fuzz pedals that aren't so noisy?

Sure, look into gated fuzzes. You also mod big muffs to have a gate on them, too.
