Hi all,
Done some searching around but not found info that answers my questions.
Looking for a gritty fuzz, but not crunchy if that makes sense.
Interested on comparisons on these 2 and any others you would consider it worth me checking out.
Cheers

If we both mean the same thing by "gritty, not crunchy" then I think the BBM is the one for you. And it's purty cheap too. |

I use a BritBender Version 2 (Thank you grygrx) and a woolly mammoth.
I also have a Human Gear Animato for distortion. All are quiet when nothing is going on, but gritty while playing. I couldn't be happier. |

I tried out a Bass Big Muff yesterday and walked away thinking, "maybe I do need a fuzz." I really liked the bass boost. I don't think it's the most flexible fuzz out there but it is nice. The only other fuzz I've been attracted to is the Messdrive Hybrid +. I've only heard clips but it seems to be very flexible. Of course it cost more than the BBM. |

Also maybe a Bass Big Muff + English Muff'n?

Get the BBM for the quickest, cheapest muff sound for bass. If you go into muff clones, the Messdrive is very good. I heartily recommend the Messdrive Hybrid+. The added knob and character switch makes a world of difference. Form what I have heard the Supercollider is super awesome too. |

Supercollider is a different beast though. If you're looking a more overdrivey fuzz, the super's your way to go. Lots of knobs for shaping your sound...Search "Supercollider" in the search engine to learn morez.
If you want options for bass boost, blending, less out of your wallet, and the pedal in your hands quicker, go w/ the BBM. |

All the guitar ones cut a significant amount of low end that is often covered up by it's generally muddy tone. However, if you try playing in a band with it on, you drop right through the mix.

That basically splits my signal, then puts them back together before it goes to my amp. Not only keeps my low end, but it keeps it clean, so it definitely cuts through.
Just my 2 cents.
*But now I wanna test the BBM, THANKS TBers

I'm sure that the Bass Big Muff sounds great, but I'm really happy with my current setup. I'm also really digging my B:Assmaster. It's not as versatile sounding as the Big Muff which has a tone control, but it's a fun pedal none the less. |

Sorry guys - there are just no shops in my state that carry this stuff in Australia!!

I thought it sounded very nice and warm with a passive J but a little too harsh for my taste with my active Stingray copy. IIRC it tended to loose low end as the gain increased. I tend to like fairly low gain settings for OD and fuzz. |

Sorry guys - there are just no shops in my state that carry this stuff in Australia!! | The nano muff is a no-frills guitar overdrive. It Is OK on bass - it has earned some enthusiasm here on talkbass in the last month, but I used to have a double muff and it was dispensable, so I'd say forget it.
The Blogger sounds pretty cool, but both its fuzz and drive settings are way more restrained than the BBM. Also, it needs its own, isolated power supply and isn't daisy chainable - makes me wonder why they bothered to release it simultaneously with the BBM... I would sa you can better emulate the blogger on the BBM than vice versa, if that makes any sense. |

Anyone willing to let me borrow them? |

For a similar type of fuzz, I really like my MXR Blue Box, but it's much harder to control. Of course if you have a bigger budget, check out the ZVex Woolly Mamath & Fuzz Factory (there are half price Vexter models that are just less painted and don't have an LED).
In terms of rare, but dirt cheap, try to find an old DOD Bass Grunge. I can't say enough about this pedal, so I won't even try. |

| | | | I love my Depth Charge, but I still need to try a BBM. If I like it more I can just trade the Depth Charge and make some profit.(I paid $230 for the Depth Charge).
BBMs run what like 80-100 bucks right? |
