Also, some of that "Valley Girl"/"Ship Arriving Too Late" era Frank Zappa had chorus on the bass played by Scott Thunes (although I don't think it was specifically on those two tracks). It was on some of the Broadway the Hardway album, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPREAfL8swI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToReX88lzkk (I love the "Mr. Sting" line), and I think it was on some other tracks from other albums. One of my favorites is Pino Palladino's bassline on Don Henley's "Sunset Grill". The combination of chorus + fretless bass = a beautiful & haunting tone.
