Bass distortion for baritone guitar

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,

So, I play a Mike Mushok baritone guitar (sometimes tuned A E A D G B...sometimes tuned E E B D G B) and I'm getting frustrated trying to find a good distortion/overdrive pedal. I've tried Boss pedals, which are horrible to mediocre sounding...both bass and guitar distortion...and the low end fullness I want always gets left behind. I'm looking more at bass distortion than guitar distortion, hopefully to keep the low end. I'd love to create a Meshuggah sort of sound...perhaps a little warmer. I'm also moving around between playing through a Fender Supersonic guitar amp and a couple bass amps (Carvin 1200 and a GK backline 600...both through their respective company's 4 x 10s) to try my existing distortions out. The best I've gotten so far is actually the built-in distortion on the GK backline 600, which has me considering playing through a bass amp and cab rather than a guitar amp...or to try out GK's diesel dawg.

Any advice for me?

have you tried the Ibanez 7th heaven (SH7) - it's been designed with 7 string gu*tar players in mind. Maybe worth a try?

Not sure if this is the kind of thing your going for as I'm not familier with meshuggah, but a Big Muff (any of them) has a TON of low-end

I get great results with a Guv'nor on my Jag VI, though it might be too light for you. How about a GK Diesel Dawg, they're simply the stompbox version of the distortion circuit in Gk amps.
