Bass Distortion/Fuzz headache
So im in a grunge band right?
I need to find a good distortion pedal, hell knows i been through alot of them and i still am not happy/cant find the distorted tone i want
Ive tried :-
ProCOR the rat (old and new)
Boss OBB-3 bass overdrive
Green Bass Big Muff
Behringer bass overdrive
Hartke VXL attack bass pedal/DI
Hell, i even tried to dial a decent tone in on a Sansamp DI with no luck, so im sick of this, was wondering if anyone had any pointers?
I actually found such a sweet overdriven. (Not to overdriven) spot on my svt3 pro that I did away with. The pedal.been through a few and it was right under my nose the whole time, whatcha got for amp /cab??
Check out the Fuzzrocious stuff. I have a Demon on order, and their Rat Tail/Rat King is awesome. I looked forever for the "perfect" bass distortion, and found the tone I was looking for in the Demon demoes.
Hartke 410TP 4x10 Cab
Hartke LH-500 Head
I found my distorted tone with a parallel signal chain. I use an insane mid focused, low end cutting distortion in one chain, and I'll have either my clean tone, or a light overdrive in the second, mixed to taste.
Darkglass B3K, lots of video demos out there.
B3K. Stopped looking when I got it.
the EA Iron Pig is awesome. does od distortion and fuzz.
so many options with it.
SVT/810 With TAFM for extra menace. Looking at the Malekko B;Assmaster too.
What kind of amp are you using?
I would try running cleaner with just a tinge of overdrive.
The EBS Multidrive is very good at that.
We would need more information on your gear, (strings included), playing style and tonal goals to get you a better answer. Otherwise you are going to get the same stock answer: B3K.
Are you looking for strictly distortion or are overdrive pedals an option too? I have tried dozens of dirt pedals. The B7k is an incredible pedal but it's quite expensive. I also looooove the sans amp GT2. It is a guitar pedal but I have been using for years and I think it's fantastic! Very versatile pedal as well. The Zvex basstortion looks pretty amazing too. I'm thinking of picking one up in a few weeks. Good luck on your hunt, dirt pedals are the hardest to be satisfied with in my opinion :p
I've been very happy with the EBS Sheehan signature OD.
Not surprised you had such luck. Only one of those pedals I like for bass is the Bass Attack...it's a really different pedal than most but in a good way. The Rat is good when it's modded for bass or done with a blend, but it can be intense. And while the Sansamp BDDI is decent enough, I greatly prefer the VT pedal.
There are a lot of good pedals, but you won't like all of them. Youtube vids, when decently done, can help you find pedals that are more into what you're trying to achieve, and often times folks post sound clips on here of their pedals. But with a handful of exceptions, it really does seem like the best pedals for bass are coming out of smaller builders whose gear isn't easily found at your local store.
i have the VT bass and the catalinbread SFT- both would be excellent
