Bass and the DL4.... opinions

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking at getting the DL4 for my bass. I will largely use it for some delay effects and the slow gear effect to help achieve that bowed upright effect. I have seen limited amounts of videos of the dl4 being used with the bass.

Anybody here use the dl4 with their bass. Like, dislike? Does it handle the lows well enough? opinions welcome! alternatives?

Will work fine on bass but for cost and size you'd be better looking at the Line 6 M9 and getting a lot more features for your buck.

Try avoid buying an old second hand one as there were lots of issues with the switches on the xx-4 series but other than that they are great pedals with some really great sounds.

Flip side is you might want to just try a volume pedal and a decent analog or analog emulation delay to get a similar effect. Or a Guyatone SV-2 if you can find one.

Depends the route you want to go and if you need tap tempo delays, I always get far more natural sounds out of a volume pedal and my Subdecay Echobox over what I can do with my Line 6 M13.

Just throwing the options out there.

I love my Modded DL4. I've never had an OG stock DL4 for comparison but issues seemed to stem from the PC board mounted switches,...which the mod took care of. And also some sort of volume loss which the mod also took care of. The expression control is icing on the cake.

Here is a thread that details the mods.

http://www.ilovefuzz.com/viewtopic.p...ilit=drasp+dl4

I have the blue one towards the end of that thread and received it in trade from fun loving TBer/ILFer Behndy.

It's a very clean and quiet delay (my guitarist in Mecha Shiva has an analog voiced digital delay that is hella noisy and also an old SMM) and can do a great deal of sounds including some very out of this world mechanical sounds with a short delay time.

My favorite feature is the fact that it will save your presets so when you do on the fly noises with it; IE tape drags and overlapping delays with the tap tempo,...your starting point is saved.

Excellent piece of gear. If you want a DL4,...my suggestion is try and find a good deal on a used one and have it modded.

As far as low end loss? Well that just depends on what you do with it. If you are just using it for a typical delay then no,...the modded DL4 doesn't loose any low end. If you use it for what I use it for (which is unsafe music to begin with) then you run the risk of loosing low end but that's more of a setting/operator "error" thing than a result of the pedal not being low end friendly.

Line 6 Echo Park has the volume swell feature. I use it to great effect. I got mine used for only $80
