Bass Driver?

Sign in to disble this ad
What exactly do these do to the bass sound and why would I want to add one to my signal chain?

Can you be more specific to what you're talking about? Do you mean the SansAmp BDDI?

well depending which bass driver you mean any number of things but by most assumptions can i say that it gives your bass an overdriven sound much like an amp being pushed too hard?

did you mean the Sansamp Bass Driver DI (the programmable, regular or Deluxe versions)
or the Digitech Bass Driver, or perhaps a Fulltone Bass Drive, or a Moolon Bass Drive?

the sansamp ones have the most features in terms of it being a DI box, a Preamp (capable of driving a poweramp), a Amp emulator (with Speaker simulation for recording/front of house), it also has blend, bass, treble, drive and presence controls.

In general, a "driver" is an overdrive. Why you would want one, I can't answer.

I know this sounds totally KrAZy, but it's probably to have an overdriven sound...

I think bass overdrive can provide for such a great sound if it is used tastefully.

i used to have a sansamp rbi bass driver, a keeley modified RAT distortion pedal, and a sansamp bass driver di. but not i have the fulltone bass driver and it is hands down the beefiest and most badass bass driver ever. it is on all the time because i can still have a lot nice soft tone when i play soft but when i dig in it's huge.

If you're talking about the tech 21 sansamp bass driver, many bass players go for that pedal for it's tube-emulated sounds. if you don't want that pedal, you don't have to buy it.

the bass driver I use is a digitech bass driver. it may not be the best bass distortion pedal, but I dig it. it does have a metal sound for bass.

I had a Guyatone Flip Series BBX-D Tube Bass Driver & TOTALLY miss it. Blendable real tube overdrive/distortion.
Maybe someone could link a youtube w/some textbook bass driver tones for the OP..?

Edit: my current *bass driver* is a Mesa/Boogie D-180. SERIOUS drive, yo. UNH.

I suspect your current OD is better than the guyatone...

On-topic, though, I went through TONS of bass ODs before returning to the Homebrew Electronics Hematoma... pretty darn affordable, and very flexible with a wide gain range but not difficult to dial in precisely
